Our First Year Living in Mauritius

From London to Grand Baie: Our First Year Living in Mauritius

By LiveWorkInvest •

Our story began in late 2023, when we — Ben and Lisa — decided to leave our fast-paced London lifestyle for something slower and sunnier. After months of research and speaking with consultants, we applied for Mauritius’ Premium Visa.

Arrival & Finding a Home Our first month was filled with logistics: setting up temporary accommodation, exploring neighbourhoods (we loved Grand Baie instantly), and signing a one-year lease for a 3-bedroom apartment with a sea view.

Schooling & Family Life Our children were enrolled in Northfields International School, and the transition was smoother than expected. The school community was warm, and the kids made friends quickly.

Work & Connectivity Both of us work remotely. Lisa set up a co-working membership at Workshop17, while I turned the spare room into an office. High-speed internet (100 Mbps) from My.T kept our work running smoothly.

The Challenges

  • Adjusting to a slower pace — things like utilities setup and government processes took time
  • Language — although most people speak English, French and Creole are widely used

Our Takeaway One year later, we’ve extended our Premium Visa and are exploring permanent residency options. Living in Mauritius feels like the best decision we ever made — for both work-life balance and our family’s well-being.
