Working Remotely from Paradise: A Digital Nomad’s Routine
By LiveWorkInvest •
What’s it really like working remotely in Mauritius? We followed the daily routines of two remote professionals — Sarah, a Canadian UX designer, and Aakash, an Indian software engineer — both living on the island under Mauritius’ Premium Visa scheme.
Morning Routine
- 6:30 am: Sunrise walk on the beach or short hike
- 7:30 am: Breakfast with fresh tropical fruit
- 8:00 am: Check emails and calendar
Workspace Options Sarah works from Café Lux in Grand Baie or from The Hive. Aakash uses a dedicated desk at Workshop17 and has a backup internet solution at home (portable 4G router).
Workday Balance
- Meetings across time zones: Mauritius GMT+4 works well with both Europe and Asia
- Breaks for swimming, lunch by the sea, or yoga
- End of workday by 5–6pm, followed by kitesurfing, gym, or socialising
Challenges
- Power outages during cyclones (infrequent but real — most coworking spaces have generators)
- Time zone lag with US clients
- Need for backup internet (My.T + Emtel combo recommended)
Tools Used
- Slack, Zoom, Figma, Google Workspace
- Revolut, Wise for banking
- VPN and two-factor authentication for security
Living Costs
- Monthly coworking: MUR 5,000–10,000
- Rent (1-bedroom apartment): MUR 25,000–40,000
- Internet: MUR 1,500–2,000
Mauritius proves you can have it all: productivity, peace of mind, and paradise in one.
